This project seeks to establish transferable lessons from the successful FASNET project in Dublin. FASNET is a group of 12 owner-managers brought together in 1995 to form a learning network applying the principles and concepts of the learning organisation more usually associated with large firms. Over a period of 18 months FASNET developed into a learning network with its own identity, values and vision. The groups vision was to `share knowledge, expertise and experience that will strengthen all our people and other resources and result in a more effective business’.
To achieve this they agreed to contribute participatively, learn together and exchange intelligence and experience.
F.A.S., the Irish training and employment agency, after whom the network took its name, supported this network and the key objective was to allow the network to become autonomous as soon as possible.
Part sponsored by the LEONARDO programme and led by F.A.S., this project aims to produce a management guide, a facilitator’s guide and a theoretical framework for learning networks of small businesses.
The products from this project will be particularly useful for supporting the establishment of learning networks as an economic development initiative for those agencies responsible for the support and development of small companies.
It may also enable large companies and consortia of small companies to develop initiatives which support people and organisational development in supply chains.
F.A.S. is the lead partner for this project.
E.C.L.O. is responsible for disseminating the project as well as evaluating its outcomes.
